Know When You Are Helping & When You Are Not

Toddlers are enthusiastic ‘helpers.’ They love to show their independence and ability to do things just like big kids can do. And they are adorable in their efforts.

What toddlers are not so great at, unfortunately, is providing actual help. They mostly get in the way or slow down the main process.

Adults can fall into the trap of ‘toddler-like’ enthusiasm in their desire to help out friends and loved ones. Helping is great, assuming you can help. If you can not, you will not be any help. You will be a hindrance, regardless of any polite speak of your contribution to the effort.

Know before you volunteer if the activity is one where you can provide real assistance. If not, then politely decline when recruited. It’s better for both sides.
