Being An Achiever Is Hard

Being an achiever is not easy. It is not supposed to be.

Being an achiever involves work.

Here are five variations of the famous quote on success being about showing up. Number two was inspired by what Woody Allen probably said, and number three was a confirmation by Woody Allen that he said something like that:

“Ninety percent of success is just showing up.”

“Showing up is 80 percent of life.”

“Eighty percent of success is showing up.”

“Seventy-five percent of life is showing up.”

“In life, fifty percent of it is showing up.”

But let’s go back in time and read what Thomas Edison had to say about success before we get to hung up on showing up. His quote: “Ninety percent of a man’s success in business is perspiration.”

And that means work.

Showing up is kind of important. You do have to be there to get the work done. But you have to show up at the right there. The right place at the right time with the right team and the right tools and the right plans and the right motivation.

And donuts and coffee would probably be a nice touch, but not really necessary.

But what if you shun success? What if your way is the way of peace and tranquility that is being lazy and shiftless?

For starters, there is nothing inherently wrong with that. I’m not here to judge the life of expected luxury that is not following the social norms of hard work and determination. But I am here to tell you, life ain’t gonna be so easy coasting off the livelihoods of others.

Maybe you don’t fit the description of a classic moocher, but you will find trying to secure a prosperous and meaningful life sans ambition and desire to be near impossible. Even people who are working to marry for money and support are working toward the goal of getting married for money and support.

Showing up is great. Showing up ready to work is greater.

Just being around, hoping that whatever you need will eventually show up wherever you are, is never going to pan out.

Maybe give that achiever’s life a second thought?
