No one enjoys being stuck in a conversation with a serial name-dropper. But while some may have the ability to scoff rightfully at those who uses their connections to influencers to raise their personal relevancy, many of us secrecy envy those who seem to know all the right people to get things done.

Not necessary. The process of networking allows you the ability to make contact with the right people by making contact with people in general. And hopefully connecting with a lot of people.
The right people with the right influence will make themselves available to you through the overall contacts you make, not via a setup meeting to entrap them into an endorsement of an idea they haven’t been looking for.
